Rugby players often carry nicknames, but few carry one with the weight of family history. For Albert Liebenberg, known affectionately as “Viervoet” or “Alla”, the nickname is more than a label — it’s a legacy passed down through generations.
In a position where toughness and precision are non-negotiable, Janco Uys has established himself as a dependable and respected figure in the Suzuki Griquas pack. As a hooker, his role demands physical commitment, technical accuracy and leadership — qualities that Uys continues to deliver with consistency.
Griquas Rugby is thrilled to celebrate two of its finest being recognised on the national stage at the 2025 SA Rugby Awards. George Whitehead and Gurswin Wehr were both nominated for the prestigious Carling Currie Cup Premier Division Player of the Year Award, underlining their outstanding contributions to our campaign this season.
The Griquas Youth Teams are where talent meets opportunity. We develop young, driven players into future rugby stars through elite coaching, top facilities, and a winning culture rooted in discipline and pride.
We have won the Currie Cup four times – in 1899, 1911, 1970 and 2025; the Vodacom Cup a joint-record five times; the SuperSport Challenge in 2019 most recently SA Cup Champions in 2024.
